What We Believe

Statement of Faith

We believe that there is one God, sovereign in all things, and eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the true deity and full humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His substitutionary and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father and in His personal return in power and glory.

We believe in the full deity of the Holy Spirit, acknowledging Him together with the Father and the Son in the works of creation, redemption, and sanctification.

We believe the Bible to be the inerrant Word of God. It is our ultimate and only infallible authority for faith and practice.

We believe that man was created by God in His own image; that he sinned incurring physical, spiritual, and eternal death; and that as a consequence, all human beings are born with a sinful nature and are sinners by choice and therefore under condemnation.

We believe that those who repent and trust Jesus Christ as Savior are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and become new creatures, delivered from condemnation and receive eternal life.

We believe in the universal church, a living spiritual body of which Christ is the head and all regenerated persons are members. We believe in the local church, consisting of a company of believers in Jesus Christ and their children, baptized in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Spirit.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

Apostles Creed

We also affirm the apostles creed and recite it every week in our liturgy.  This succinct statement encapsulates the core tenants of the faith once for all delivered to the saints.

I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.  Amen.

Savoy Declaration

We are confessional – believing that the testimony of the church over history has value in ascertaining right doctrine today. All Elders or Deacons are required to subscribe to the Savoy Declaration, which is our primary doctrinal standard, while allowing for exceptions that would fit within a broad reformed consensus such as articulated in the Westminster Confession of Faith or London Baptist Confession of Faith.  Church members are not required to expressly subscribe to the Savoy in every detail, but should expect the teaching and practice of Hot Springs Reformed Church to reflect this reformed confession.

Read the Savoy Declaration.
